Every year, I’m on a mission to stretch my PTO as far as it’ll go, so I thought I’d share this handy hack to help you do the same! I found an awesome infographic from Travel Noire that really brings it to life, making it easy to see just how far a little planning can take you. Here’s the deal: by being smart with your days off in 2025, you can turn just 11 PTO days into over 30 days off. Yes, you read that right—30 days! All you have to do is line up your PTO with weekends and holidays, and voilΓ —suddenly, you're the vacation pro everyone envies. Here’s the breakdown of the best days to take off and how much glorious time off each one will give you.

1. New Year’s Break: December 30 & 31, 2024
Take Off: Monday, December 30, and Tuesday, December 31, 2024
Total Days Off: 5 days (with the weekend and New Year’s holiday)

*By taking two PTO days at the end of December 2024, you’ll enjoy an extended break that includes New Year's Day, resulting in a five-day weekend to welcome 2025 in style.

2. President’s Day Weekend: February 14 - 17
Take Off: Friday, February 14, 2025
Total Days Off: 4 days (with the weekend and President’s Day holiday)

*President's Day is on Monday, February 17. If you take the preceding Friday off, you’ll have a four-day weekend to relax, travel, or spend quality time with family and friends.

3. Memorial Day Weekend: May 23 - 26
Take Off: Friday, May 23, 2025
Total Days Off: 4 days (with the weekend and Memorial Day holiday)

*Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26. By taking off Friday, May 23, you create another four-day weekend to enjoy the late spring weather.

4. Juneteenth: June 19 - 20
Take Off: Friday, June 20, 2025
Total Days Off: 4 days (with the weekend and Juneteenth holiday)

*Juneteenth is on Thursday, June 19. By taking off the following Friday, you get a long weekend to celebrate or relax.

5. Independence Day Weekend: July 3 - 6
Take Off: Thursday, July 3, 2025
Total Days Off: 4 days (with the weekend and Fourth of July holiday)

*July 4 falls on a Friday in 2025. By taking off Thursday, July 3, you extend the holiday into a four-day weekend to fully celebrate Independence Day.

6. Labor Day Weekend: September 2
Take Off: Tuesday, September 2, 2025
Total Days Off: 4 days (with the weekend and Labor Day holiday)

*Labor Day is on Monday, September 1. Taking Tuesday off allows you a four-day weekend to mark the unofficial end of summer.

7. Thanksgiving Break: December 1
Take Off: Monday, December 1, 2025
Total Days Off: 5 days (with the weekend and Thanksgiving holiday)

*With Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 27, take off the following Monday to create an extended five-day holiday weekend. This gives you time to recover from Thanksgiving festivities or enjoy extended travel.

8. Christmas Break: December 26
Take Off: Friday, December 26, 2025
Total Days Off: 4 days (with the weekend and Christmas holiday)

*Christmas Day falls on Thursday, December 25. By taking off Friday, December 26, you extend the holiday into a four-day weekend, perfect for celebrating the season.
